Psalms 1:1-2
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
In this Psalm we have the blessedness of the righteous and the destruction of the wicked. The "blessed man" is one who refuses to embrace the ways of the ungodly but rather delights in God's law. It shouldn't just be a duty but a great joy to spend time with the Word and then to meditate upon it continually. The perfect example was the Lord Jesus Himself. May we ever walk in His will and ways.
Father of mercies, in Thy Word
What endless glory shines!
Forever be Thy Name adored
For these celestial lines.
Oh, may these hallowed pages be
Our joy by day and night,
And still new beauties may we see,
And still increasing light.
Divine Instructor, gracious Lord,
O grant our fervent prayer,
Teach us to love Thy sacred Word,
And view the Savior there.
